Along The Line

In response to Ithaca’s Green New Deal, this workforce development approach focuses on education and cycles of deconstruction and reuse. The central spine serves as a circulation route for materials, while also providing a hands-on learning space and integrated lecture “hall.” The undulating section condition connects areas of observation and interaction, facilitating flows between people and materials. By concentrating on the deconstruction and reuse of glass, concrete, wood, and metal, we cultivate familiarity with common building materials at a small scale. These materials are seamlessly integrated into interior and exterior finishes, showcasing their qualities and unlocking possibilities for adaptive reuse. Furthermore, these finishes accentuate structural choices, ensuring code compliance, with foamglas insulation for the exterior walls and roof, and soundproof interior spaces. The use of channel glass adds a dynamic element, blurring the line between public and private areas, providing transparency during the day and intriguing shadows that activate the facade.
